At SmartEnergyAlternatives, we expect rising energy costs to reduce the discretionary spending ability of consumers. This in turn will lower the outlook for many industries which depend on the overspent, heavily indebted American consumer to spend their way to prosperity. Have we finally reached the breaking point, where consumers can no longer take on additional debt to create the facade of comfortable middle-class living? We don't know at this point. What we may find is that additional debt may not be an option. Already over-stretched to buy their McMansions and drive their SUVs, many people may be just one recession away from financial disaster. Stay tuned for more. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8533441/
