U.S. Transportation Secretary saying that an "energy diet" is needed is like saying a morbidly obese person should shed a few pounds. [Read Article] Of course a change is needed. What we in the alternative energy field have been saying for years is being co-opted by the political elites in order to capture credit for what is becoming so obvious that even the politicians can't miss it.

With Ukraine under threat of an energy crisis and Georgia already suffering and Peak Oil making headline news daily in the foreign press, the U.S. political class is finally opting in.

Our prediction? Glad you asked. Since power begets power (for you lovers of historical precedence) the political class with their corporate sponsors understand the inevitability of Peak Oil and the pressing need for smart energy alternatives (hence, our name of Smart Energy Alternatives. Cute coincidence isn't it?) So, after years of negleting the issue they can swoop in during the final act before the curtain drops and pose as our saviors while imposing draconian regulatory burdens on business which act as barriers to entry, thus protecting their big corporate masters, while causing energy price increases for the working masses whose meager wealth is transferred back in to the corporate coffers. That's is how we see it playing out.
