These commutes are becoming costlier in terms of family finances and the environment as fuel is more expensive and more is being used. The strain on the family budget will increase as fuel prices continue to rise. Any retreat in prices will be a short-term reprieve from the inevitable shortages which will occur if serious disruptions occur in supplies as a result of international conficts or Peak Oil.
