Consumer spending remains strong in the face of stark economic reality. [Read article] The article does note that "many workers worry about whether their pay will keep pace with inflation." Considering that pay is almost stagnant, that's a valid concern. (sigh)


Yet I'm not at all surprised that the consumption frenzy that constitutes 70% of the U.S. economy continues like the band playing aboard the sinking Titanic. The manic U.S. consumers have an insatiable appetite for things coupled with a lack of awareness about the peril they face.


With the savings rate at 0 or lower and the economy on unsteady legs, our readers have the knowledge to prepare themselves, slow spending, get out of debt and have some funds ready for the downturn which will come.
